Basic Information
Founded in the 8th century, Hasedera Temple is one of Japan's most prominent Kannon pilgrimage sites, soaring on the hillside of Mt. Hatsuse. It is the head temple of the Buzan sect of Shingon Buddhism. The principal deity is the Eleven-Faced Kannon.
The grand hall, built in kake-zukuri style (stage construction) on the steep cliff of Mt. Kohatsuse facing south, is also famous as the "Temple of Flowers" where visitors can enjoy flowering trees and plants throughout the four seasons.
Cherry blossoms, magnolias, and peonies in spring; hydrangeas, lotus, water lilies, and crape myrtles in summer; autumn foliage in fall; and snow scenes in winter—every season offers delights to visitors.
